Background information
In today's rapidly evolving world, the use of E-beam/X-ray facilities has become increasingly important across various sectors including healthcare, agriculture, food processing, and material science. E-beam/X-ray facilities benefit various sectors by enhancing safety and quality. In healthcare, they ensure sterile medical devices, reducing infection risks. In agriculture, they control pests and diseases, boosting crop yield and quality. In food processing, E-beam/X-ray technology extends shelf life and enhances food safety by eliminating pathogens. In material science, it improves material properties, enabling the development of advanced materials. Overall,
E-beam/X-ray facilities contribute to public health, food security, and technological advancements, supporting sustainable practices and innovation across industries (International Irradiation Association, 2020).
A multipurpose E-beam/X-ray Facility boosts economic benefits by enhancing product safety, reducing recalls, and extending the shelf life of perishable goods, thereby minimizing waste. It enables access to international markets by meeting safety standards, reduces pesticide use in agriculture, leading to cost savings, and promotes sustainability. The facility generates employment opportunities and fosters innovation in material science and product development, driving economic growth. Overall, it supports profitability for producers and retailers, while encouraging sustainable practices and global trade (Australian Government, 2022).
Public perception of food irradiation is mixed, often due to safety concerns and misinformation. Many fears irradiated food might be harmful or radioactive, despite scientific evidence of its safety (Castell-Perez & Moreira, 2021). Low awareness and myths contribute to skepticism. Trust in regulatory bodies and clear labeling can improve acceptance. Highlighting benefits, such as reduced foodborne illnesses and extended shelf life, is crucial. Educational initiatives that explain the safety and advantages of food irradiation can help shift public opinion positively.
Recognizing the significance of E-beam/X-ray technology and its multifaceted applications, we are organizing a national awareness seminar to shed light on the benefits and implications of multi-purpose E-beam/X-ray facility. A national awareness seminar on a multipurpose E-beam/X-ray facility aims to educate the public on its benefits, safety, and applications. It seeks to dispel myths and misconceptions, particularly about food irradiation, and demonstrate the rigorous safety protocols and regulatory standards in place. The seminar will highlight the applications of multipurpose E-beam/X-ray facility and the importance of public awareness. Additionally, it showcases the facility's role in advancing agriculture, healthcare, and material science, driving economic and technological progress.
